SPT chair, Councillor Dr Martin Bartos said:

“Despite the many challenges faced this year, the capital programme approved at Partnership continues to support the 12 local authorities in a range of projects designed to improve infrastructure and encourage more active travel across the region.

“Careful consideration has been given to what projects can be delivered and those which most benefit the travelling public most.  Projects which aim to reduce journey times and improve infrastructure for all transport users are a priority as they play a key role in transforming public transport in the West of Scotland.

“We have encouraged all our local authority colleagues to be aspirational in their projects so we can continue to make strides in improving all transport options however challenging that may be in the current climate.”

All the projects identified for funding must meet SPT’s Regional Transport Strategy (RTS) strategic outcomes specifically that the projects offer or improve:

• Attractive seamless reliable travel
• Improved connectivity
• Access for all
• Reduced emissions

Among the projects being supported by SPT in 2021/22 across the 12 local authorities are: -

South Lanarkshire – £2.4million for Cambuslang Station Park & Ride; Lanark Interchange;  bus route congestion reduction measures; and National Strategic cycle routes.

North Lanarkshire – £1.8million for A71 junction improvements; A73 Carlisle Road junction improvements; bus infrastructure; and Ravenscraig Active Travel Link.

East Ayrshire – £1.6million for bus station improvements; bus infrastructure and Kilmarnock Bus Park & Ride.

Glasgow – £1.5million for bus stop improvements in the Hope Street / Renfield Street area; improvements along Paisley Road West bus corridor; bus traffic route priority upgrades; and sustainable transport improvements in Pollokshields / Mosspark area.

Inverclyde – £1.3million for Greenock Town Centre accessibility and connectivity; Port Glasgow Station accessibility; pedestrian crossing accessibility; improved traffic management system and quality bus corridor improvements.

North Ayrshire – £1.3million for Cumbrae Ferry bus stop and queuing facilities; Ardrossan Harbour Interchange; significant investment in active travel with Irvine Cycle Friendly Town; plans to reduce congestion on bus routes; and bus corridor improvements.

Renfrewshire – £1million for new pedestrian crossings installation; bus corridor improvements; traffic management system improvements; and construction of Linburn bus turning point.
