Contract awarded to complete final Subway stations

Written by SPT 01/10/2018

SPT Partnership has approved the award of contract to John Graham Construction Ltd to refurbish the last four Subway stations in the system.

The refurbishment of all 15 stations is a key part of the Subway modernisation programme which has, to date, successfully completed 11 stations.

The first station to be refurbished was Hillhead completed in 2012, the most recent stations to be refurbished were Shields Road and Bridge Street both completed in the first half of 2018.

The final four stations have been divided in two Lots:

  • Lot One – St George’s Cross and Kinning Park
  • Lot Two – Cowcaddens and West Street

Once these four stations are complete, this will see the successful conclusion of the Stations Refurbishment work stream achieving a significant milestone in the overall Subway modernisation programme.

The work at these final stations will follow the same high quality approach used at the previous stations, providing a cleaner, more efficient and modern passenger friendly environment throughout the station.  General signage, information and wayfinding for those with accessibility needs will all be improved.
