Cycling Championships

From 3-13 August 2023, the inaugural UCI Cycling World Championships will be hosted in Glasgow and across Scotland. The single biggest cycling event in history, it brings together 13 existing individual cycling world championships into one event.

SPT is supporting the event by ensuring those living and visiting Glasgow are able to move through the city freely on the public transport options available to them.

Travelling by Bus

Road closures required for the road races of the UCI World Cycling Championships will require bus services to make extensive diversions from their normal routes in and around Glasgow, particularly on the following dates. Friday 4 – Tuesday 8 August inclusive. Saturday 12 & Sunday 13 August inclusive. Customers should check Traveline Scotland or the bus operator website for full details.

Travelling by Subway

The Subway will run to a normal timetable throughout 3-13 August. There are trains every four minutes at peak times and every six-to-eight minutes during off-peak times. On Sunday 6 and Sunday 13 August, Subway will operate 08:00 - 21:00. Last trains on Inner and Outer depart St. Enoch at 21:00 (terminating at Govan). Park and Ride is available across three sites and will open during Subway operating hours. More info below. Travelling by Bike

Bike parking is provided free of charge at various Subway and SPT Bus stations. Bike shelters are available at Bridge Street, Kelvinbridge and Kinning Park Subway stations. These facilitate up to 10 bikes at each shelter. Bicycles left at racks are left entirely at the risk of the owners. SPT accepts no liability for loss or damage to bikes left at Subway stations. Please note, SPT does not permit bicycles on Subway to due space restrictions.
