SPT has accepted the physical Scotland Loves Local Gift Card for Subway ticket purchase since 2022, with thousands of journeys completed to date.
SPT Integration and Ticketing Manager Michael Nimmo said: “After the successful introduction of contactless Pay As You Go travel on Subway earlier this year, we’re delighted to confirm that the digital Glasgow gift card can also now be used at the Subway ticket gates. Customers can also benefit from best value prices for Subway travel when using contactless PAYG including the digital Glasgow gift card. Subway is also a great way to reach many of the other businesses where the Glasgow gift card can be used.”
The Scotland Loves Local Gift Card is delivered by Scotland’s Town Partnership in association with fintech Miconex.
Colin Munro, managing director of Miconex said: “Our research has shown that around 79% of people who receive a gift card make a specific visit into the town or city to spend it. And not only are they spending their gift card, 86% are spending more on top, and they are buying additional services like travel. This new technology makes it easy for Glaswegians to add their digital Glasgow Gift Card to their digital wallet and enjoy a full experience of the city, including getting there and getting home."
