SPT Partnership has awarded a contract for specialist Subway train bogie and wheel repair to Wabtec Faiveley UK-Rail Scotland.

The Kilmarnock-based firm has extensive experience and knowledge of inspecting and repairing SPT rolling stock developed over many years.  It also has the only lathe in Scotland capable of re-profiling SPT wheels.

The total contract value is worth £705,790 over a five-year period.

SPT Chair Martin Bartos said:

“We are delighted to have awarded this contract, for this very specialised work, to the Kilmarnock based Wabtec Faiveley UK-Rail Scotland. This will help ensure our current trains remain fit for service until our new trains are introduced.

“When we can, SPT always tries to support Scottish based companies and help ensure local jobs in communities across Scotland.”

Local Councillor Jim Roberts, Cabinet Member for Economy and Infrastructure and East Ayrshire Council’s representative on SPT’s Partnership added:

“This is great news for Wabtec and for our local economy.   East Ayrshire has a proud tradition of training and employing skilled craftspeople and this contract recognises the very high quality of specialised work the company provides for SPT.  Over the next five years, it will help sustain and develop local jobs for the current and future generations of engineers in East Ayrshire.”

Paul Bain, Managing Director of Wabtec Faiveley UK-Rail Scotland, said:

”Wabtec are passionate about servicing our customer needs, and are particularly pleased by SPT’s recognition of our specialist wheelset plant and staff expertise at Kilmarnock through the award of this contract.”
