SPT Subway
Shields Road Park and Ride

What's new at Shields Road?
A new state-of-the-art car park at Shields Road Subway station was opened on 24 October 2006, providing commuters with 800 parking spaces and a five-minute Subway journey into the city centre.
The £4.6million project was developed in partnership by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport and Glasgow City Council, with funding from the Scottish Executive.
Contractor Barr Construction and designers Keppie Design have created a multi-storey car park over four levels which SPT and Glasgow City Council hope will encourage commuters to Park and Ride on the Subway, rather than drive their cars into the city.
As well as the new multi-storey building, the development of the car park also involved redesigning the existing surface level car park and adding new cycle racks. In total, there are now double the number of spaces that were previously available.
New and enhanced facilities include dedicated disabled and parent and child spaces, a toilet, a lift to the upper floors, full CCTV coverage and improved lighting.
In April 2007, Shields Road car park was presented with the Park Mark Safer Parking Award by Strathclyde Police. A detailed risk assessment showed the car park demonstrated it has measures in place to deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour. It provides a safe environment for the public and their vehicles and is the first SPT car park at a Subway station to receive the Park Mark accreditation.
Who can use Shields Road car park?
Shields Road car park can be used for Park and Ride by people who intend travelling on the Subway, or by people who wish to use the car park only.
What are the car park opening hours?
Parking is available at Shields Road car park Monday to Saturday from 0630 until 2340.
On Sundays, all areas of the car park are open between 1000 and 1805.

How secure is the car park?
The car park is covered by CCTV. Help points are provided at the entry and exit barriers and at ticket machines. Barriers can be remotely operated and CCTV is monitored via the Subway station booking office as well as from the attendant's office. CCTV is also monitored by the Subway's Control.
A dedicated car park attendant will be on duty at the following times:
- 7.30am to 7.30pm weekdays;
- 9.00am to 7.30pm Saturdays;
- 11.30am to 4.30pm Sundays.
When the attendant is not on duty, station staff and security staff will be available to deal with any problems you may have and will carry out frequent security and customer care patrols.
Fire alarm systems are linked to the Subway's Control and Subway station booking office.
How do I get to the car park?
To find the car park, when travelling along Scotland Street from the west, take the first left hand turn into the car park.
When travelling from the East, pass the exit barriers after the junction with Carnoustie Street and take the next right hand turn into the car park.
How much does it cost?
Park and Ride Subway users can park all day for £2.00 plus the price of your ticket. This rate applies to all valid tickets - including ZoneCard, Discovery, Day Tripper and Roundabout - but does not apply to a single journey ticket.
People who wish to use the car park only without travelling on the Subway can do so for an all day charge of £4.20.
There is no hourly rate.
Please note, for security reasons overnight parking is not permitted. A penalty rate will apply for vehicles which are left in the car park overnight.
How do I use the car park?
Park and Ride Subway users
Take your ticket from the machine at the entry barriers to the booking office for validation. On purchase of your Subway ticket and payment of the discounted rate of £2.00, you can park all day. Your ticket can only be validated at the booking office at Shields Road.
Please do not use the self-serve ticket machines in the car park.
You will need to validate your ticket and put it in the machine by the exit barriers to leave the car park, unless you have been in the car park for less than 15 minutes.
Car park-only users
Please use the self-serve ticket machines in the car park. The charge should be paid when you validate your car park ticket on departure from the car park.
