New ticket office opens at Partick Interchange

The challenging project to transform Partick Station into a modern transport interchange takes a step forward today as the new ticket office opens for business.

The ticket office has moved to its new permanent site at the station entrance in Merkland Street.

The creation of the new ticket office is a significant project milestone. It clears away part of the old station interior, to allow important foundation works for the new station concourse to begin. Passengers are warned that the usual routes to and from high level platforms may alter as work progresses. Signs will be posted throughout the station to advise passengers of changes.

As well as the normal ticket sales and journey planning services, passengers using the new ticket office will be able to get real time information about the arrival and departure of Subway and train services.

Partick Station is a major public transport hub and is the fifth busiest station in Scotland. It is set to become even busier as the exciting regeneration of the Clyde Waterfront continues at Glasgow Harbour.

Originally the end date for the contract was spring 2007 but in January this year, that estimate end date was put back to February 2008. SPT and partners are still working to complete all essential works by February next year.

Further critical works are scheduled for the summer months. SPT is monitoring progress on a weekly basis.

SPT Chair Councillor Alistair Watson said: "The creation of the new ticket office is a significant milestone in the Partick Interchange project. We lost precious time at the start of this year when work on the project was suspended for three months.

"The ticket office opening is much more positive news. Our regeneration plans are ambitious and rebuilding Partick Station continues to be a challenging project, because we're building around a fully operational Subway and railway station."

Cllr Watson said SPT would continue to inform the local community about schedules for building work and thanked local people for their patience and understanding.
