SPT and unions in learning accord
SPT has reached an agreement with trades unions Unite and Unison on lifelong learning.
The Learning Agreement, which was signed on 7 August, will enable staff to access new opportunities for learning and training, both within SPT and with outside training providers.
The aim is to ensure that staff become highly trained, motivated and reach their full potential.
Research shows that organisations working in partnership with trades unions to provide learning and training have higher productivity levels and better trained and motivated staff.
The agreement was reached through the efforts of Unite learning organiser Lyn Turner, learning representative Brian Stewart, and convener Ian Findlay, working together with SPT management.
Mr Stewart said: "We are very pleased to have reached this agreement which will allow SPT staff to become all they can be."
SPT Chief Executive Ron Culley said: "I am delighted to announce that today we signed a Learning Agreement with Unison and Unite.
"This underscores the emphasis I’ve placed upon training within the organisation and justifies the annual increase in the training budget since my arrival in April 2006."
