Change to Renfrewshire bus service
A bus route currently subsidised by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport is being replaced by a commercial service.
From 1 October, SPT will no longer operate Service 301 between Kilmacolm and Johnstone. Instead, First Stop Travel will operate a service (Service 301) along the route.
SPT spends around £4.7million a year subsidising local bus services in areas where people would otherwise be cut off from public transport. By law, SPT cannot fund services on routes which are already served by a commercial operator. Therefore, as First Stop Travel is taking over the service between Kilmacolm and Johnstone, SPT must withdraw its subsidised service on that part of the route.
However, SPT will continue to fund the evening service (Service 169) between the Renfrew Ferry and Paisley Royal Alexandra Hospital. The 10-month contract for this has been awarded to First Glasgow at a cost of £46,914.
