New Subway store opened

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport has unveiled an extension to its Subway maintenance depot.

Today (Friday 24 August), SPT officially opened the new £163,000 stores building which was constructed by Scottish builder Rok at the Subway’s Broomloan headquarters.

Head of Subway Operations for SPT, David Wallace said, “The stores extension is vital for us. The current workshop layout is severely restricted for space to store heavy spare parts and lacks any provision for inward goods, a despatch area and repair marshalling. This new facility allows these issues to be addressed and is a key element in our pursuit of ISO 9000 accreditation.

“The new stores building allows specific areas to be identified for goods that have been delivered, goods that need despatched and parts that need repaired. It also allows more space to be set aside for building work and repair work to be carried out.”

Rok project manager, Neil Ross, said: “SPT now has a first-class extension to its maintenance depot which I hope will be of great use to them.”

The project is another part of the overall modernisation of the Subway which also includes a £1.7million contract to refurbish Subway trailer cars and a £530,000 investment in a new public announcement system which should be in place by spring next year.
