SPT joins up journeys to the Big Match
Strathclyde Partnership for Transport helped around 8,000 fans get to and from the UEFA Cup Final last night (Wednesday 16 May).
Working in partnership with Glasgow City Council and First Glasgow, SPT provided free buses to take neutral fans to the big match. Cup finalists Sevilla and Espanyol provided transport for their own supporters.
A shuttle service involving 30 buses took around 8,000 fans from Buchanan bus station to Hampden and back again after the match.
First Glasgow also stepped in at the last minute to take a number of fans to Glasgow Airport, Prestwick Airport and Edinburgh Airport to catch their flights home.
Four coaches were kept on stand-by until 1.45am and SPT opened Buchanan bus station overnight for fans who had early morning departures.
SPTs Director of Bus Operations, Eric Stewart said: "Im delighted that so many fans chose to use our free buses. It was a very busy night but all the staff involved did an excellent job. First Glasgow provided a first-class service and thanks also to Scottish City Link and Stagecoach who operated additional services for us on the night.
"I hope everyone enjoyed what turned out to be a very exciting cup final."
