Strike action shuts main public transport facilities - UPDATED 27 March
No services will run on Glasgow’s Subway and Buchanan Bus Station will be closed on Tuesday 28 March due to a national day of action by members of UNISON and the Transport & General Workers Union, protesting over proposed changes to pension entitlements.
SPT Travel Centres at Cumbernauld, Greenock and Hillhead will also be shut by the strike along with the Transcentre located in St Enoch Subway Station.
Buchanan Bus Station
SPT asked the Transport & General Workers Union for a dispensation from the industrial action to maintain a basic pick up and drop off service at Buchanan Bus Station on public safety grounds but this was refused.
Bus passengers who intend to travel to Glasgow on services, which start or end at Buchanan Bus Station are advised to:
Ask the driver where they can get on the bus for their return journey.
Check the route of the service before travelling and look for the closest stop to the bus station on the route concerned. Generally buses will be following their normal routes.
Allow more time for their journeys as there will be disruption to all bus services on the day.
Passengers travelling on long distance bus and inter-city express services should contact the relevant operator for departure information.
Subway services
Details of alternative, scheduled bus services serving Subway stations are being posted outside each station. Tickets for these services should be bought on the bus as usual.
Subway multi-journey or season ticket holders can travel by First ScotRail between Queen Street//Buchanan Street and Partick.
Car parking at Subway Park & Ride sites will be free.
Subway season ticket holders will be issued with replacement tickets compensating them for any days lost due to the dispute.
