SPT joins up journeys to women’s 10k
Subway opens early for runners
Participants in the Resolution Asset Management Women’s 10K Race on Sunday 18 May will get a helping hand to the starting line from SPT.
Following SPT’s successful involvement in last year’s race, when over 4,000 competitors used the SPT-provided transport, special travel arrangements have once again been made for competitors making their way to Nithsdale Road for the start of the race.
SPT is providing free Subway travel and free parking at Shields Road, Kelvinbridge and Bridge Street car parks as well as bus transfers to and from the race for runners and their companions. The SPT Subway will open at 8am – two hours earlier than usual on a Sunday.
Special race shuttle buses will run from two pick-up points in Glasgow – Cochrane Street (just off George Square) and Shields Road Subway station – to take runners to Dumbreck Road, just south of the start-line on Nithsdale Road. The buses will then return runners from the finish line on Mosspark Boulevard to their original pick-up points.
The shuttle bus services will operate every 10 minutes from both pick-up points, starting at 7.30am until 9.30am. Return journeys will run from 11am to 1pm from Mosspark Boulevard back to the Cochrane Street and Shields Road Subway station.
Each runner will receive a voucher which entitles them to one free car parking space at Shields Road multi-storey car park (800 spaces) or in the car parks at Kelvinbridge Subway station (150 spaces) and Bridge Street Subway station (159 spaces). Parking spaces will be available on a first-come first-served basis.
SPT Assistant Chief Executive Gordon Maclennan said: “Our involvement in last year’s Women’s 10K was a first for us and proved to be a huge success. This year we hope even more competitors will take advantage of the free travel and parking we’re offering.
“Our aim is to encourage more people to use public transport but to do that we need to provide services when people most need them. By offering free Subway travel - along with the shuttle bus services – we hope to help make the race a stress-free and enjoyable experience for all involved.
