SPT spends £4.5 million on transport links
Demand-responsive bus services renewed
Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is playing its part in making public transport more accessible by renewing its Demand Responsive services across Strathclyde.
SPT members today (Friday 2 May) agreed to spend £4.5million to continue four Dial-a-Bus and Ring‘n’Ride services in North Ayrshire, Central Lanarkshire and Greater Glasgow until 2013.
SPT provides Dial-a-Bus services for people who have difficulty using public transport as a result of disability or age. Ring‘n’Ride services provide transport links to areas with limited or no public transport.
SPT’s Director of Bus Operations, Eric Stewart, said: “Our demand responsive services are vital to many people and play an essential part in public transport provision in Strathclyde. They are there to make sure that people who have difficulty using public transport – for whatever reason – are not left stranded.
“We firmly believe that public transport should be accessible to all and we are committed – through services like these – to providing a first class public transport system for people in Strathclyde.”
The renewed contract for Central Lanarkshire Dial-a-Bus was awarded to Henderson Travel at a cost of £2.5million. This service operates between 8.45am and 11.30pm Monday to Saturday and from 9am to 6pm on a Sunday.
North Ayrshire Dial-a-Bus operates between 9am and 6pm (until 11.30pm on Wednesdays) and the renewed contract has been awarded to Shuttle Buses at a cost of £705,563.
Henderson Travel will continue to operate the Three Valleys Ring‘nRide service in Central Lanarkshire after being awarded a contract worth £963,031. This service is available between 7am and 11.30pm Monday to Saturday and from 9am to 11.30pm on a Sunday.
Greater Glasgow Dial-a-Bus will continue to be operated by Henderson Travel between 8.45am and 6pm from Monday to Saturday. The renewed contract has been awarded at a cost of £327,533.
