Hospital link on its way - thanks to SPT

Hospital exterior.Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is providing a vital bus service to help visitors and staff get to Ayr Hospital and Crosshouse Hospital.

From 1 April, Service 24 will operate between both hospitals, via Ayr Town Centre, Prestwick and Dundonald. It will run every hour from approximately 07.15 (12.15 on Sundays) until after evening visiting every day of the week.

Today (Friday 14 March) SPT members agreed to award a four-year contract to Stagecoach Buses at a cost of £170,000. The cost is being covered jointly by SPT and Ayrshire and Arran Health Board.

SPT vice-Chair, Councillor Davie McLachlan said: “The fact that we are able to fund this service for four years is brilliant news for visitors and staff to both hospitals.

“This service really ticks all the boxes in terms of what SPT is trying to achieve. It improves access to healthcare, promotes social inclusion and improves transport to rural areas.

“We are introducing people on to this service with a view to Stagecoach continuing the service on a commercial basis once the subsidy expires.”

The vehicles used will all be fully DDA compliant.
