Fresh deal for cleaning firm
A firm's major bus stop and shelter cleaning contract has been extended by SPT.
SPT manages 1,759 bus shelters on behalf of seven local authorities, which involves cleaning, reporting defects and managing repairs.
In March 2005, SPT awarded a three-year contract to Mitie Olscot to clean bus shelters every month.
Later that year, a separate contract was awarded to the company to clean timetable cases.
SPT has now decided to combine both elements of work in one cleaning contract to achieve cost efficiencies and ensure consistency in standards.
In addition, SPT will shortly complete a four-year programme of work to install information cases at 9,000 bus stops throughout Strathclyde.
These cases also require regular servicing, cleaning and inspection.
SPT members have agreed to continue the existing contracts with Mitie Olscot for a further six months, until 30 September, 2008.
This will allow time to draw up a new tender specification which will combine bus shelter cleaning with the cleaning of timetable information cases.
