Bus operator in emissions first
Bus operator Henderson Travel has introduced the very latest standard in low emissions vehicle in the SPT area.
The new Euro 4 Solo bus began running on Service 71 from Buchanan Bus Station to Torrance on Monday.
At a bus seminar in December, Director of Operations, Eric Stewart, raised the possibility of variable departure charges from SPT bus stations, dependent on vehicle efficiency.
For example, buses which cause the most environmental damage could be charged more, whereas those operators who invest in greener, more fuel efficient vehicles would reap benefits by paying lower charges.
SPT has surveyed operators about the environmental and access compliance of their fleets and is currently analysing the results. This is the first stage of a process to shape SPT’s future charging strategy for use of its bus stations.
Henderson Travel’s commitment to running state-of-the-art buses with more efficient engines has been commended by SPT.
The aim is for this to become the norm as more and more operators introduce low emission vehicles to their fleets.
