SPT Playscheme Travel Pass Design Competition
Winning entrants presented with prizes at special ceremony
Six talented youngsters took centre stage at a special award winners' ceremony as they stepped up to collect their prizes. The SPT Playscheme Travel Pass Design competition is an established event, now in its seventh year.
This year's competition offered entrants the choice of three categories design the 2008 Travel Pass, Freedom Pass or Argyll Pass. It attracted record entries 350 in total from children aged 6 to 12 who attend playscheme groups and after school classes across west central Scotland.
The children were able to select an image to be used as subject matter for their entry from a list of three that included:
- Scotland's National Football stadium at Hampden Park
- The Glasgow River Festival
- A theme park
The judging panel, led by SPT Research Officer Michael Ferrie and assisted by Mary McFall, Chair of the West of Scotland Playscheme Advisory Forum (WOSPA) admitted they had their work cut to select the eventual winners.
They stuck to the task in hand and after some deliberation announced their decision to award two prize winners for each section.
The winners were:
- Rachel Orr, Cadder (Travel Pass)
- Jody Mulvey, Shotts (Travel Pass)
- Robyn Haldane, Battlefield (Freedom Pass)
- Emma Kerr, Bellshill (Freedom Pass)
- Jennifer Dempsey, Summerston (Argyll Pass)
- Stephen Thompson, Bonhill (Argyll Pass)
Competition organiser and chair of the judging panel, SPT's Research Officer Michael Ferrie said: "The children came up with some inspirational designs and we'll be proud to incorporate them on our Playscheme travel passes.
"We value our association with the Playscheme initiative because it allows so many children the chance to make the most of the summer holidays by giving them an opportunity to travel across the Strathclyde area.
Mary McFall, chair of WOSPA added:"SPT's travel pass design competition is a great opportunity for the kids to show off their creative talents. Each year more and more of them are trying their hand at designing the Playscheme tickets and it's been great to see the ideas they come up with."
