Transport experts to meet in Glasgow
Conference to address transport challenges
Top transport professionals will meet at Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall on Thursday (22 March) for the Scottish Transport Applications and Research (STAR) conference.
The annual event - now in its third year - offers an opportunity for transport practitioners from around the country to discuss the challenges facing Scotland's transport future.
The conference will focus on research carried out on transport policy within the past year. Delegates will look at transport planning in Scotland and discuss the best ways to take the country's transport network forward.
The programme consists of speakers from a variety of transport organisations as well as discussion sessions on numerous topics.
Head of Technical Analysis at Transport Scotland, Hugh Gillies, chaired the steering group of conference organisers. He said: "We are very encouraged by the high quality of papers being delivered at this year's event. This is reflected in the level of interest in STAR 2007. As an annual conference it is going from strength to strength."
Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) representatives Hilary Howatt and Bruce Kiloh, and equalities consultant Dory Reeves, are taking part in an 'Access for All' session which will look at Equality Impact Assessment and SPT's Regional Transport Strategy.
Other key issues to be discussed at the one-day conference include:
- Transport and Global Warming
- How to Reduce Car Use
- Effective Travel Plans
- Transport Strategy and Delivery
- Innovative Road Design
- Issues of Geography in Scottish Transport Governance
