SPT funds extra bus journeys

Service 253 (Coalburn-Hamilton) to get early morning bus

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport is to provide early morning Sunday bus journeys from Coalburn to Hamilton.

Today (Friday), SPT agreed to fund the additional journeys on the 253 Service which operates via Woodpark, Lesmahagow, Blackwood Cross and Larkhall Cross.

From 15 July, the first journey from Coalburn on a Sunday will be at 6.37am, with the first bus from Hamilton leaving at 7.50am.

Henderson Travel will continue to operate the revised timetable.

SPT Vice Chair and South Lanarkshire Councillor Davie McLachlan said: “I’m very pleased with these extra journeys as I’m sure they will make a big difference to people who need to travel first thing on a Sunday morning.”

Lesmahagow councillor Alex McInnes submitted a request to SPT after being approached by constituents asking for earlier journeys.

He said: “This is great news for people in the area, particularly those who work at weekends and need public transport first thing in the morning.

“I’m grateful to SPT for taking on board my constituents’ views and providing them with a service which I’m sure will be well used.”
