Work to re-start on Partick Interchange
Contractors back on site
Work to create a modern public transport interchange at Partick will re-start on Monday (19 March).
The Partick Interchange project was temporarily halted in December due to design complexities.
However, contractor C Spencer Ltd (CSL) will re-start work on Monday after negotiations with Strathclyde Partnership for Transport and Network Rail.
SPT is working with CSL to minimise the delay to the project and completion is now estimated to be in Spring 2008. As previously reported, the estimated cost has now risen from £9.7million to £10.5million. However this remains well within the budget limits which stand at £12.3million.
Partick Interchange has always been regarded as a technically ambitious project. It involves construction work over the existing 106-year-old Subway tunnels, while maintaining operation of the busy Subway and the suburban rail station.
Chair of SPT, Councillor Alistair Watson, said: “Despite this setback I am confident that the rebuilding of Partick Interchange will deliver a new flagship station for the west end of Glasgow.
“This is a very challenging project. Difficulties have arisen but we have worked hard with our partners to resolve them and I’m pleased that we can now start making progress again.
“I would like to thank the Partick residents for their continued patience during this project. They will be kept informed of all important developments as work re-starts.”
Subway, train and bus services remain unaffected by the work being carried out and will continue to run as scheduled.
