SPT makes hospital visits easier

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport is funding a new bus service which will provide better access to Wishaw Hospital during visiting hours.

From Sunday (8 October), an experimental Service 210 will operate an evening and Sunday service between Lanark and Wishaw Hospital which has been designed to coincide with hospital visiting times.

Welcoming the new service, vice-chair of SPT, Councillor David McLachlan said: "As the service runs right into the hospital grounds, it makes taking the bus a much more attractive option than driving. Having such a convenient service will also take some of the stress and inconvenience out of visiting friends and family in hospital."

Lanark North councillor, Mary McNeill added: "This is a great service for all those visiting Wishaw Hospital but particularly for the elderly and those who don’t have access to a car."

Councillor for Lanark South, Brian Reilly said: "This isn’t just good news for Lanark but for the whole of the Clydesdale area. Having such a good quality service can only encourage people to take public transport to Wishaw Hospital."

The service will operate between Lanark Interchange and Wishaw Hospital, via Lower Braidwood, Carluke Cross, Law Road End, Waterloo and Wishaw Cross and will run between 18.23 and 20.42 every evening as well as between 14.23 and 16.42 on Sundays.

SPT has also approved funding for a new hourly service between Cambuslang and East Kilbride which will be operated by Henderson Travel. The new Service 172 will operate from Monday to Saturday and will use a low-floor bus to make it fully accessible to wheelchair users and buggies.

The service - which begins on Monday (9 October) - will run from approximately 07.25 until around 18.25 and will operate between East Kilbride Bus Station and Gilbertfield Road in Cambuslang, via Calderwood Square, Whitlawburn and Cambuslang Terminus.
