20 May 2005 Partick station gets green light The multi-million pound project to rebuild Partick Station was finally given the go-ahead today by Strathclyde Passenger Transport Authority members. The deal was formally approved following several weeks of intense top level negotiations between SPT, the Scottish Executive and Network Rail to get the project back on track and iron out a number of complex issues, including the cost of insuring the massive refurbishment project at Scotland's fifth busiest railway station. An agreement has now been reached which will signal the start of the long-awaited £13 million regeneration of Partick Station SPT Chair Cllr Alistair Watson, said: "I am delighted we are finally making progress at Partick Station - this is a major breakthrough and I must commend the efforts of everybody at SPT for managing to find an acceptable solution to the problems that we have faced. "Partick is a major hub for thousands of people travelling by train, subway or bus and as such it provides a critical link in Glasgow's transport infrastructure." Under SPT proposals the existing station will be demolished and rebuilt, providing improved access to the platform and bus stances and state-of-the-art passenger information systems. Passengers would also see improved comfort and safety, better travel information, easier interchange between rail, Subway and bus and improved access for travellers with mobility problems. ends
