21 April 2004 SPT publishes a first edition For the first time, data about public transport patronage and provision within west central Scotland has been produced by the SPT Policy Development Unit and published in a single volume. SPT is one of seven passenger transport authorities (PTAs) in the UK and is unique in Scotland. It covers the largest geographical area of any PTA and works with councillors and officers from its twelve constituent councils, to form Strathclyde's public transport policies. Due to the geographical diversity of the Strathclyde area, public transport solutions are tailored to meet both the strategic needs of the wider metropolitan region and journey to work area, as well as specific local needs. SPT owns and operates the Glasgow Subway, invests in the local SPT rail network and sets timetable and fares. It also subsidises ferry and bus services to ensure there are excellent public transport links throughout the region. In the course of all the planning, monitoring and operational work carried out by SPT staff, a huge amount of data is gathered about public transport supply and demand. The 2003 report contains a wide selection of statistics that should help our wide and diverse audience understand the breadth of public transport services SPT provides, as well as its performance. The report will be updated and published annually by the SPT Policy Development Unit. An electronic version of SPT's Statistics and Trends 2003 report is also available and can be downloaded from the SPT website. ends |
