Local residents take opportunity to discuss proposals for new Park and Ride facility.

SPT hosts information day in Monkton

SPT spent a day in the Ayrshire village of Monkton last week to talk to local people about our Park and Ride plans for the area.

Around 30 people from the communities of Ayr, Prestwick, Troon and Monkton attended the day, as well as members of local community councils and residents' groups.

Among those chatting to locals were representatives from SPT, Stagecoach, property consultants Drivers Jonas, and South Ayrshire Council's SPT member Councillor Bill Grant.

Cllr Grant said: "SPT is developing big plans for Ayrshire. Park and Ride is high on our agenda and part of our commitment to get people on to public transport.

"Strategic park and ride sites on major bus corridors are essential to ease the commute between Glasgow and Ayrshire.

"Monkton has been identified because a site there could serve Ayr, Prestwick, Kilmarnock and Glasgow. It is also close to trunk roads and easily accessible by car from the surrounding area."

SPT has applied for Outline Planning Consent for the project, so it is still at an early stage. If this is approved the next step is Detail Design, at which point it is hoped another local information day will take place.
