There was a notable increase in users of our JourneyShare service during our promotion of National Liftshare Day.
JourneyShare drive a success
July 2, 2009 NewsOur JourneyShare website triumphed over all other Liftshare schemes during the month of June - following our efforts to promote National Liftshare Day.
Liftshare is a national company which assists organisations like SPT, as well as private businesses, in creating their own car sharing websites and promoting other journey sharing ideas.
SPT JourneyShare is just one of many Liftshare-endorsed sites across the UK and celebrated National Liftshare Day, on 9 June, by making a special video about the benefits of car sharing.
During the first two weeks of June, Liftshare monitored the performance of all related sites and SPT JourneyShare came top by attracting the highest number of new members - 239 - bringing our total membership to 2,139.
Organisations including various local councils, Langside College, Glasgow International Airport and the NHS boards for Ayrshire and Arran, Lanarkshire and Greater Glasgow and Clyde have also signed up.
All will use internal sites to help their staff share journeys.
SPT Chair Alistair Watson said: "One of SPT's roles as Scotland's largest regional transport partnership is to reduce the number of cars on the road, especially single occupancy vehicles.
"Our success in promoting SPT JourneyShare around the time of National Liftshare Day shows our commitment to encouraging greener modes of transport.
"Car sharing has great benefits for individuals as well as the environment, with participants saving on average £1,000 a year in car running costs."
Liftshare founder Ali Clabburn said: "Since they launched the JourneyShare site in February, SPT has done a terrific job promoting the regional scheme across the Strathclyde area.
"We're delighted to be working in partnership with them, and look forward to helping them roll out the Liftshare concept across the region."
