SPT and Radio Clyde's musical fundraising initiative is going centre stage this week.

Subway hosts Busk for Kids fundraiser

November 24, 2008

SPT and Radio Clyde's Busk for kids charity initiative has gone centre stage, with a musical launch at Buchanan Street Subway Station.

The first of 21 finalists in the competition entertained morning commuters at the station on Monday.

Michael Sweeney, 42, from Glasgow, played guitar and sang some of his own songs during a live Radio Clyde breakfast broadcast.

Throughout the week, busking talent ranging from singers to belly dancers will perform at key SPT Subway stations.

Passengers at Buchanan Street, Kelvinbridge, St Enoch, Hillhead and Shields Road are being encouraged to donate £1 each to Radio Clyde's Cash For Kids.

Ordinarily buskers are not permitted in Glasgow Subway stations but this initiative was seen as a great way of promoting Clyde's charity, encouraging local talent and entertaining passengers.

Each year, Clyde 1 and 2's Cash for Kids initiative assists more than 100,000 children facing physical, emotional and financial challenges.
