City & Guilds awards approved training centre status to SPT
SPT wins City & Guilds accreditation
November 13, 2008Strathclyde Partnership for Transport has become an official City & Guilds approved centre for training.
The honour was officially bestowed on the organisation today (Thursday, 13 November) when City & Guilds Customer Relations Manager John Robertson visited SPT's city centre offices.
The award means SPT staff can now study for work-related NVQ or SVQ certificates in-house, without external training companies or colleges needing to be employed.
Subway Training Officer Andrew Calder, who also acts as City & Guilds Quality Assurance Co-ordinator, was responsible for gaining the accreditation.
He said: "As well as saving money for the organisation this means SPT gets the credit for the training provided to its staff.
"City & Guilds is seen as the best awarding body overall for railway operations, engineering and customer services, that's why we decided to go down this route."
There are City & Guilds courses to choose from, with each taking about between six and 10 months to complete. Study and assessments will be undertaken in the workplace, with support and guidance provided by centre mentors and assessors.
