Brake fault leads to service suspension

October 10, 2008

Both circles of the Glasgow Subway were temporarily suspended on Friday afternoon due to problems with a defective train at Buchanan Street Station.

A fault in the braking system of the train resulted in smoke emissions and dust from the brakes which triggered fire alarms at the station.

The station had to be cleared at 12:50 to comply with fire regulations and Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service attended.

Once the situation had been assessed by SPT staff and fire personnel, the Outer Circle service resumed at 13:50.

The Inner Circle service resumed at 15:02 once the defective train had been moved off the network.

About 150 people were led out of the station and precincts as a precaution.
