Industrial action on suburban and inter city rail services could mean increased demand on the Subway this week.
Rail demand on Subway services
October 7, 2008Passengers using the Glasgow Subway have been advised that the system could be busier than usual at peak times this week as a result of industrial action affecting suburban and inter city rail services.
Talks involving Network Rail and the Rail Maritime and Transport Union, aimed at averting strike action by signalling workers, broke down on Monday.
The dispute over rostering and transfers has resulted in two 24-hour stoppages. The first of these began at noon on Tuesday, with another due to get under way at the same time on Thursday.
First ScotRail said it has put "as robust a timetable as possible" in place but services were being reduced after the morning rush hour on Tuesday and Thursday.
It said there would be reduced frequency and capacity on routes where services have been provided.
Contingency plans include limited replacement bus services on some long distance routes.
A spokesman for SPT said: "While our services are not affected by the industrial action, we are expecting to be busier than usual.
"Therefore, we would ask people to bear in mind that there could be increased demand on the Subway system. Please set off in good time for your journey."
