SPT commits more than £400,000 to local bus services across Strathclyde

SPT’s Operations Committee today (Friday 28 August) agreed to subsidise several vital bus routes serving local communities across the region at a cost of more than £400,000.

The award of these contracts ensures that socially necessary bus routes will continue to be available to the travelling public ensuring access to employment, education and healthcare opportunities and other essential services.

The services cover areas in Glasgow; North Lanarkshire; North, South and East Ayrshire.

SPT Vice-Chair Councillor Denis McKenna said:

“I’m pleased that in awarding these contracts SPT is enabling people to access vital, socially necessary bus services that ultimately enable them to live their lives.

“From medical appointments, to education, employment and leisure – services like these need to exist so that the travelling public of Strathclyde are adequately provided for.”

Service 329 Glasgow – Roystonhill – Stobhill Hospital – will provide an hourly, Sunday daytime service. Contract awarded to JJ Travel at a cost of £16,275 running from 4 October 2015 until 15 July 2017

Service 117 Townhead – Coatbridge – Cliftonville – Carnbroe – will provide links between Townhead and Coatbridge on a Saturday morning and Sunday daytime. Contract awarded to JJ Travel at a cost of £90,400 running from 4 October 2015 until 14 July 2018

Service 21 Crosshouse Hospital – Dundonald – Irvine Magnum Centre – will provide a Monday to Saturday daytime and evening service, and also a Sunday daytime service between Crosshouse Hospital and Irvine, Magnum Centre, via Gatehead, Dundonald and Drybridge. Contract awarded to Western Buses at a cost of £180,950 running from 15 November 2015 until 14 July 2018

Service 49A Cumnock Local will provide a Monday to Saturday daytime service within the Logan, Barshare, Cumnock Hospital, and Craigens areas of Cumnock. Contract awarded to Western Buses at a cost of £113,278 running from 15 November 2015 until 14 July 2018

Service X76B Cumnock – Kilmarnock – early morning Sunday journey between Cumnock and Kilmarnock for interchange with existing services to Glasgow – Western Buses, at a cost of £51 per week, for the contract period 4 October 2015 until 2 April 2016, equivalent to an annual cost of £2,652.
