Local bus services in Glasgow City & South Lanarkshire protected

At today’s (Friday 26 June) Operations Committee meeting, members approved contracts for services in Glasgow City and South Lanarkshire council areas.

Services 46 (Castlemilk – Queenslie), 141 (Partick – Gartnavel) and 100 (George Square – Riverside Museum) were all secured for coming years.

SPT Operations Committee Chair Cllr Denis McKenna said:

“Commercial decisions to withdraw services result in gaps in the bus network, which in turn leads to members of the public bearing the brunt.

“Socially necessary services must be maintained in order for people to access health, employment, education and leisure opportunities and I’m pleased that once again SPT can support the provision of public transport in this way.”

• Service 46 – Castlemilk – Rutherglen – Greenfield – Queenslie awarded to First Glasgow, running from 12 July 2015 – 14 July 2018 and will provide an hourly daily evening service.

• Service 141 – Partick – Broomhill – Gartnavel Hospital awarded to McGill’s, running from 12 July 2015 – 16 July 2016 and will provide an hourly daytime Saturday and half hourly daytime and evening service.

• Service 100 – Glasgow – George Square – SECC – Riverside Museum, awarded to Garelochhead Coaches running from 28 June 2015 – 15 September 2018 and will provide a half hourly daytime Monday – Sunday service.
