STRATHCLYDE Partnership for Transport (SPT) today (Friday 15 March) committed more than £100,000 to maintain an essential local bus service in East and South Ayrshire.
The subsidy, agreed today at a meeting of SPT’s Operations Committee, will ensure the future of the service 110, which serves Kilmarknock, Dundonald, Muirhead and Troon.
The move will renew the subsidised service until 2016.
SPT Vice Chair, Denis McKenna, said:
“SPT commits hundreds of thousands of pounds every year to support essential bus services which many local communities depend on.
“I am very pleased that we’ve been able to secure the future of yet another service for the next three years as it’s vital to many local people.”
The contact for the 110 service – which operates a Monday to Saturday evening and all-day Sunday service – was awarded to sole bidder Western Buses at a cost of £106,371. It will run from 14th July 2013 to 16th July 2016.
