Strathclyde Partnership for Transport and South Lanarkshire Council have teamed up to promote the first shared Park and Ride initiative in the region.
Car users are being encouraged to share a vehicle with fellow travellers on their way to train stations at Hamilton West, Carluke and Newton before heading on to public transport.
Brand new signs were recently installed at all three car parks to promote SPT’s JourneyShare scheme.
SPT vice chair Denis McKenna said: “Encouraging drivers to share a car to our Park and Rides at train stations can go a long way to cutting congestion and I am delighted that SPT JourneyShare is joining forces with South Lanarkshire Council.
“Car sharing is a fantastic way to save money. You not only cut down on fuel costs, which are dearer than ever before, you can also increase the lifespan of your car by using it less.
“It is also brilliant as a way to protect the environment by reducing exhaust emissions and I would urge as many people as possible to give it a go.”
