Careers at SPT

Major Projects Team

Background

The introduction of a new rail link to Glasgow Airport is SPT's flagship project. This multi-million pound project involves our business partners at Network Rail, BAA and Renfrewshire Council. The airport rail link is a strategic rail project which will provide direct access from the city centre to Glasgow Airport. The scheme involves upgrading 9km of existing track from Glasgow to Paisley – from two tracks to three or four – and providing 2km of new track linking east of Paisley St James station to the airport terminal building.

In addition to the airport rail link, Crossrail Glasgow is the ‘missing piece’ in Scotland’s rail jigsaw. Linking the lines running from Glasgow Central and Queen Street stations will close a critical gap in the Scottish rail network. This is a project of national significance as it will enable services from all over Scotland to connect to a whole range of new destinations. Crossrail Glasgow also has the potential to improve access to Glasgow and Prestwick International airports for travellers from across the country as well as those in the west of Scotland.
