Maintenance and Shop Maintenance Craftpersons – Subway
Background
Our own workforce is responsible for maintaining most of the Subway. This includes the trains, which are subject to extensive routines of preventative work, together with maintenance of the signalling and ticketing systems and escalators. With this level of maintenance to be carried out, we require staff to be on hand during all periods of train service.
Job outline
As a Maintenance employee, you will be based at our depot at Govan. You will be involved in routine maintenance, fault finding and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment in the Subway system, together with bench repair of other items of equipement.
As a Shop Maintenance employee you will maintain, test and repair the rolling stock and ancilliary plant and equipment in both the depot and stations. Furthermore you will assist at engineering examinations and provide reports on these when necessary.
Both posts offer excellent prospects for career and salary advancement and this is based around SPT’s competency framework for maintenance staff.
Requirements
For the Maintenance post, you will have a recognised apprenticeship in an electrical or mechanical discipline and a wide range of experience in various voltage electrical equipment or in mechanical aspects of maintenance.
For the Shop Maintenance post you will be similarly qualified and have an interest or knowledge of railway rolling stock, pneumatic systems, braking systems, traction/transmission systems and component testing.
Health
For both posts you will be physically fit, in good heath and pass a medical examination to ensure you meet the standard for the post. This will include a test for alcohol and drug abuse.
