  • SPT operates four bus stations (East Kilbride, Hamilton, Buchanan bus station in Glasgow and Silverburn) including a network of Travel Centres throughout the Strathclyde area.

    Job outline

    As a Regulator, your main duty involves safety and security. Based at one of our bus stations, you will assist in ensuring the safe movement of buses.

    You will provide travel information to the public and you may be required to deal with left luggage.

    Requirements

    You will have good communication skills, be approachable and helpful.

    You will have the ability to work in an environment where safety is paramount.

    A knowledge of the transport industry and the ability to operate a computer would be advantageous.

  • Open and close imagesHot Job - Customer Service Officer (Subway)
  • With a patronage of about 14m, the Subway provides a valuable link between the city centre and west end, and for north-south river crossings. Our 15 stations all have staffed ticket offices, although vending machines are also provided for ticket sales.


    Job outline

    You will form part of a team which assists in the smooth running of the Subway stations. You'll be responsible for all aspects of customer service within the ticket office. This includes ticket sales and giving assistance and advice to customers. Passenger safety is given high priority so you'll use your observation skills to ensure the station is hazard free by carrying out security and safety checks. Dealing with the public on a day to day basis, you will be customer-focused with first class communication skills.

    Requirements

    You will have at least six months' railway experience in a customer-facing role, or one year's experience in a customer-orientated role. Furthermore, you must have good numeracy and literacy skills (ideally English and Maths or Arithmetic at standard grade or equivalent), plus good communication and interpersonal skills. Experience of cash handling is desirable.

    This post offers good career progression for employees who are able to match the skills within the competency framework for flexible workers. To ensure your prospects of future career development, the recruitment process will consist of an assessment to test your suitability to drive trains and monitor CCTV systems.

  • Open and close imagesHot Job - Travel Centre Assistant (Travel centres, bus stations)
  • SPT operates four bus stations (East Kilbride, Hamilton, Buchanan and Silverburn) and a network of Travel Centres throughout the Strathclyde area.

    We also operate a Mobile Travel Centre to serve people living in rural areas. By providing impartial multi-modal public transport information we aim to promote the use of public transport.

    Job outline

    Based at one of our Travel Centres/bus stations, you will provide a valuable service to both residents and visitors to Glasgow and the surrounding areas. You will be responsible for providing accurate travel information to the public.

    Approachable and enthusiastic, you will also sell a range of tickets for local and long-haul services and coach tours. To ensure we maintain our professional image, you will assist in ensuring the security and cleanliness of your place of work.

    Requirements

    With previous sales experience, you will be used to dealing with the public (both face to face and over the telephone). You will need to have experience of cash handling and customer service experience, combined with numeracy and PC skills. A knowledge of the travel and/or tourism industry would be an advantage.

  • Open and close imagesHot Job - Subway Maintenance
  • Our workforce is responsible for maintaining most of the Subway. This includes the trains, which are subject to extensive routines of preventative work, together with maintenance of the signalling and ticketing systems and escalators. With this level of maintenance to be carried out, we require staff to be on hand during all periods of train service.

    Job outline

    As a Maintenance employee, you will be based at our depot at Govan. You will be involved in routine maintenance, fault finding and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment in the Subway system, together with bench repair of other items of equipement.

    As a Shop Maintenance employee you will maintain, test and repair the rolling stock and ancilliary plant and equipment in both the depot and stations. Furthermore you will assist at engineering examinations and provide reports on these when necessary.

    Both posts offer excellent prospects for career and salary advancement and this is based around SPT's competency framework for maintenance staff.

    Requirements

    For the Maintenance post, you will have a recognised apprenticeship in an electrical or mechanical discipline and a wide range of experience in various voltage electrical equipment or in mechanical aspects of maintenance.

    For the Shop Maintenance post you will be similarly qualified and have an interest or knowledge of railway rolling stock, pneumatic systems, braking systems, traction/transmission systems and component testing.

    Health

    For both posts you will be physically fit, in good heath and pass a medical examination to ensure you meet the standard for the post. This will include a test for alcohol and drug abuse.
