SPT's environmental policy
SPT is continuing to show its commitment to the environment with the publication of our corporate Environmental Policy Statement.
We are working to improve our environmental performance through the development and implementation of an Environmental Management System.
The aim of this work is to minimise SPT's impact on the environment and demonstrate ongoing commitment to staff and stakeholders.
Our environmental policy was published on 5 June 2008, designated by the United Nations as World Environment Day.
Work is under way across SPT to identify measures to improve energy efficiency, reduce water consumption and minimise waste, overseen by an Environmental Steering Group chaired by Assistant Chief Executive Gordon Maclennan.
The group aims to identify areas for environmental improvement, and create an action plan for making these changes happen. All SPT departments are represented on the group, encouraging input and discussion on all aspects of operations and identification of areas for improvement.
Gordon Maclennan explains: "SPT is very committed to reducing its carbon footprint, and every representative on the group understands the importance of feeding our findings back to their department colleagues."
"Staff across the organisation have already proved they are more than willing to change their habits and adopt greener practices. This is evidenced by marked reductions in our energy costs and waste to landfill."
