College gives web travel planner top marks

Ayr College is leading the way as the first organisation to use SPT's unique web-based Travel Plan Builder.

The Travel Plan Builder is an online tool designed to help organisations build their own staff travel plan.

It's free of charge to all organisations and is easy to use, taking you through the process step by step.

Ayr College campus is spread over three sites with buildings at Ayr, Cumnock and Girvan.

A recent survey showed that more than half of the 8000 students travel in excess of 20 miles to college.

Ayr College Principal, Diane Rawlinson, said: "The geography of Ayrshire is such that there will always be a need for staff and students to drive to the college, but there is a lot we can do to minimise private car use and encourage more environmentally friendly travel.

"We welcome the new Travel Plan Builder and hope that our work with SPT will help ease travelling costs and encourage as many employees as possible to reduce their carbon footprint."

SPT Chair, Councillor Alistair Watson, said: "It's a great way to help organisations cut fuel costs and decrease their carbon footprint, but to the uninitiated, building a travel plan can be a daunting process.

"I am delighted that Ayr College used SPT's online system to successfully produce their own travel plan. I hope more organisations will follow their lead."
