Students have been signing up to the Subway Smartcard following SPT promotional events at Fresher’s Fairs across Glasgow.

More than 550 students have now registered either on the day or online following the event. Once they signed up for their Smartcard, students were given one day’s free all day travel in the Subway and when they join The Upper Circle, they have the opportunity to win six months free travel.

Students also signed up to Smartcard on the Capital FM tour taking in Strathclyde University, Glasgow University, City of Glasgow College, St Enoch Subway Station and Glasgow Kelvin College West Campus. The tour ran from the 14 to 18 and September saw students snapping up goodies from Capital FM and SPT with prize draws and Spin to Win.

SPT staff members Christine Blair, Sharon Reid and Paul McIlroy attended student events at Glasgow School of Art, Mansionhouse, SECC and Glasgow University.

Christine Blair said: “The Fresher’s Fair events have been a great success and we’ve really enjoyed meeting all the students who’ve signed up to Smartcard. All of them know how easy using the Subway is to get around Glasgow whether that’s getting from home to uni, to a part-time job, to meet friends or just heading on a night out in the city.”

“The Smartcard is by far the easiest and quickest way to get around and 559 students agree with us. That’s made all the hard work over the last few weeks really worthwhile and it’s been great getting out and about to meet all the new students.”
