The latest production to come to Glasgow’s Citizens Theatre is The Libertine, opening 3 – 24 May. As the title suggests, audiences can expect to be treated to a bawdy historical drama, recounting the multifarious escapades of the second Earl of Rochester (and if you’re not sure who that is, think Russell Brand circa 1670 and you’ve almost got the picture!).

We like to treat our customers whenever possible and so in partnership with our thespian friends at the Citz, we’re offering 2-4-1 tickets to selected performances and judging by what Artistic Director Dominic Hill has to say, this is an offer you won’t want to miss out on:

“I’m really excited to be giving The Libertine its first major stage production in the UK since its London premiere. It feels to me like such a “Citz” play, with everything that has made the Citizens famous: a brilliant script, visual flair and a celebration of theatre itself.”

The play tells the true story of John Wilmot, the second Earl of Rochester and a hedonistic poet, courtier, playwright and rake, whose appetite for women and wine has made him a notorious figure in 1670s London and the court of King Charles II. His need to exceed every limit leads to a spectacular fall from favour, from which neither his charisma nor true love can save him.
