SPT renews contracts to continue vital bus services across the West of Scotland

Buses

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT), last week announced the renewal of 37 vital bus services running up to July 2017.

The services, which cover areas including East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Glasgow, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, South Lanarkshire and West Dunbartonshire, provide vital links to amenities like hospitals, community hubs and local shopping.

SPT Vice Chair Denis McKenna said:

“The number of bus services vital for social and economic inclusion but not commercially viable is on the up. SPT is working hard to ensure that communities across Strathclyde continue to have access to the transport they depend on.

“We are delighted that we have secured these services for another three years and that we have managed to do so at a saving. It frees up precious public pounds to invest in better public transport services for those who need it most.”

SPT has invested £4 million to continue to offer these services, whilst also achieving a saving of almost £200,000.
