Strathclyde Partnership for Transport had a great 2013 – the Subway Smartcard was introduced, two more Subway Stations were modernised and Hamilton Bus Station was upgraded. It was a busy and exciting year but 2014 has even more in store.
The year ahead is the Year of Homecoming in Scotland. It is set to be filled with an array of events and activities for residents and visitors to get involved in – not least the 2014 Commonwealth Games taking place in and around Glasgow.
Gordon Maclennan, SPT Chief Executive, said:
“People often forget how integral transport is to the enjoyment of an event. SPT is committed to doing whatever it can to make sure that everyone who is attending one of the many fantastic events taking place across the West of Scotland gets there safely, comfortably and on time.
“The events of 2014 are set to be huge and we are expecting an influx of visitors. In addition to making sure visitors have a great experience, it is a priority for us to make sure that the people who live and work in the West of Scotland continue to receive the best public transport possible.
“Much of the work we are doing this year is about investing in our services for 2014 and well beyond. By the end of this year almost half of the stations on the Subway network will be modernised and our Smartcard will be available in new areas and more modes of transport.”
