SPT has added its congratulations to the Riverside Museum on winning a prestigious VisitScotland award.

Glasgow’s newest tourist attraction was presented with five stars following a recent undercover VisitScotland inspection.

Mike Cantlay, chairman of VisitScotland, said that the award is highly regarded in the leisure industry adding:

“Riverside is amazing – I love it.

“It is a huge show of confidence for Glasgow and Scotland that we are still building leisure facilities and that they are clearly successful, despite all the economic challenges.”

Our huge congratulations go to everyone on this achievement. This is another great vote of confidence for the transport museum of which SPT is a proud patron.”

He added: “It shows a lot of work and attention on the part of the visitor attraction, especially as Riverside is so busy.

“To keep its five star rating means it has to maintain that level and standard of service to everyone who walks through the door.”

SPT Assistant Chief Executive (Operations) Eric Stewart said: “Our huge congratulations go to everyone on this achievement. This is another great vote of confidence for the transport museum of which SPT is a proud patron. It has been incredibly popular since it opened last year and we’re delighted that so many visitors also value the convenience of the nearby Subway at Partick to get there.

“With just over a week left until our Subway Kid’s Go Free offer ends, families still have time to make the most of one of the cheapest ways to travel and enjoy a day out at this fantastic attraction.”

Archie Graham, chairman of Glasgow Life, which runs the city’s museums, said: “Riverside has been a class act since the day it opened.

“The museum has already welcomed more than 1.5million visitors and been nominated for and won a string of awards whilst firmly establishing itself as one of the most popular destinations in Scotland.

“This five star rating is further proof, if any was needed, of the exceptional quality of the building.

“Riverside Museum joins Kelvingrove Art Gallery And Museum in holding five star status, demonstrating once again the exceptional standard of Glasgow’s museums.”

VisitScotland uses a five-level star-grading system to indicate the standard of customer care and range of facilities on offer at assessed establishments. Five star attractions are visited secretly each year and given a rating based on the approach to the building, arrival, attractiveness, catering, retail and toilets.
